Hockey Strengths

Physical size results in substantial net coverage, combined with excellent lateral movement and excellent rebound control.

Coach Chris Borner comments:  Tony has given his team the chance to win every time he steps onto the ice. The team has confidence in Tony and we are comfortable that he can win games for us and that’s huge. (Contact Coach Chris Borner  703-407-9004, cborner @ pwice.com)

Goalie Coach Darren Hersh comments:  I have served as Tony Wolak's goalie coach since 2005.  Tony's improvement has been nothing short of extraordinary.  He has worked extremely hard at hour long, one-on-one lessons on a weekly basis, which has led to his improvement in every area.  Specifically, his major strengths are his reaction and blocking Butterfly technique, which is simply excellent as he covers the net exceptionally well down low from far away and in tight.  He closes the five-hole area very well and very quickly.  Tony has great size at 6’4” and he plays big covering a lot of net.  His lateral movement is especially strong when he needs to reposition on rebounds and on break-aways (dekes).  Tony plays big as he is nicely aggressive in terms of challenging the shooter and with his use of poke checks when the situation arises.  He is very good with both reaction and blocking save techniques.  Lastly and most importantly, Tony stops the puck.  Tony has accomplished all this through his attention to detail, his focus on improvement, and his exceptional work ethic.  (See below for Darren Hersh contact info)
